Requirements of funders
Funders may require you to comply with specific criteria for data management and storage, depending on the nature of your research data. The most important ones are captured by FAIR.
The FAIR principles
These are the standard criteria in Europe for data storage. The FAIR criteria will make sure that data are managed in such a way as to benefit scientific research as a whole. Make sure your data will be stored in a repository which complies with FAIR. Examples of repositories that comply with FAIR: re3data.org, and for Switzerland in particular: DLCM long-term preservation and OLOS
Costs of storage
Depending on the size of the datasets and the period of storage, repositories may charge you a fee. Make sure you include these in your planning. The SNF will reimburse storage costs for funded projects.
